Susan M. Gaines
Susan M. Gaines is "Writer in Residence" and co-director of the research and fellowship program “Fiction Meets Science” at the University of Bremen. She did graduate work in organic chemistry at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, before abandoning the laboratory for literary pursuits. Since then, her short stories have appeared in many literary magazines and anthologies. Her novel Carbon Dreams (Creative Arts Books 2001) was an experiment with science in literary fiction, and her book Echoes of Life: What Fossil Molecules Reveal about Earth History (Oxford Univ. Press 2009) was an experiment with narrative and literary prose in the factual presentation of scientific results. She has just completed another science novel titled Accidentals.
